About Julia - Your CBT Therapist

BABCP Accredited therapist with over 8 years mental health experience

My Journey to CBT

I love working in the field of mental health. It is a passion of mine personally and professionally. My motivation to become a CBT therapist was and still is to improve client outcomes in less time (compared to when I was practising as a mental health nurse). I wanted to advance my skills whilst improving client satisfaction.

I value patient autonomy and empowerment. CBT allows clients to learn skills to become their own therapist and offers a choice outside of or in combination with pharmaceutical treatments. I chose CBT as a modality because it is the number one treatment option in treating common mental health problems such as anxiety, depression and PTSD set out by NICE guidelines.

This means CBT has been rigorously researched in randomised controlled trials and has been shown to be a very effective treatment option for many people who present with common mental health problems. I wanted confidence that the treatment I offer will result in good outcomes that will benefit the lives of patients I see and provide me with a sense of job satisfaction. It is a privilege to be part of someone’s journey to better mental health.

In 2018 I gained a permanent role in Older Persons Mental Health Service working as a Community Mental Health Professional holding 24-hour responsibility for the ongoing management and care coordination of patients in the community with severe and enduring mental health problems.

CBT Training & Current Practice (2021-Present)

In 2021 I started a post graduate diploma to become an Accredited Cognitive Behavioural Therapist and qualified in 2023. Post qualification I have worked for Manx Care, Counselling and Therapies Service as an Accredited CBT Therapist.
