How to Find the Right Therapist

How to Find the Right Therapist
It’s important to check your therapist’s credentials. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is not a legally protected title, which means that anyone can call themselves a CBT therapist and claim to offer CBT.
One way to make sure your therapist has the right qualifications and experience is to check whether they are BABCP accredited.
BABCP accreditation gives you confidence that your therapist:
-
Has completed rigorous training in CBT, including education, supervised practice, and clinical experience.
-
Provides evidence-based, effective, and safe CBT treatment.
-
Engages in ongoing supervision and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
-
Follows strict professional codes of conduct.
-
Offers clear procedures for complaints, should you ever need them.
The BABCP (British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies) is the leading professional body for CBT in the UK and Ireland. Its purpose is to promote and protect the reputation of CBT by ensuring only those who meet strict standards can gain and maintain accreditation.
